CHENNAI: In a bid to cash in on emerging sectors, the Tamil Nadu government would launch a policy on space technologies, deep technologies and circular economy. It will also release an action plan for a creative economy.

Industries Minister TRB Rajaa on Friday announced in the state Assembly that Tamil Nadu is a leading player in the manufacturing of automobiles, textiles, heavy engineering, information technology, electronics and computer hardware. “In the current scenario, we are also attracting large investments in the aerospace and defence sector. To further enhance investments in this sector, we would launch a space technology policy. It will provide guidelines and vision for the development of space technologies,” he said.

The Circular Economy Investment Promotion Policy will focus on attracting investments and creating employment opportunities in this sector. The policy will encourage investments in value-added recycled products. Tamil Nadu will also come out with a creative economy action plan. A DPR will be issued to identify creative sectors in design, art, culture and entertainment segments and allied industries will be promoted.

The industries minister also announced that a tourism investment promotion and facilitation cell would be set up in Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state government’s nodal agency for investment promotion. The cell would mobilise new investments in the tourism sector and monitor the implementation of investment commitments. SIPCOT would also undertake land acquisition for tourism development on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Later, Information Technology and Digital Services Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said that Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Policy will be released this year. The policy aims to encourage deep technology innovations and help deep tech startups, he added.
