WPPS Global CEO Meeting Discusses Comprehensive Roadmap for the Future of the Wheat Sector

The 2024 Global CEO Conclave, organized by the Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS), discussed a comprehensive roadmap for the future of the wheat industry.

The two-day meeting, which concluded in New Delhi on June 26, recommended innovation, sustainability and collaboration as the way forward for the sector. “By adopting these recommendations, industry stakeholders can work together to ensure a successful future for the global wheat sector that benefits producers, consumers and the environment,” the WPPS said in a statement.

Guiding framework

As the wheat industry evolves, the findings and recommendations from the meeting will serve as a guide to achieve sustainable growth and sustainable development in line with the 2030 vision, the release said.

The conference, titled “Vision 2030: Trade Dynamics, Trends and Technologies,” provided a platform for the global wheat market, which is expected to reach $258.7 billion by 2027 and will face challenges such as climate change and fluctuating demand.

The event featured focused business sessions and panel discussions with over 50 speakers from India and abroad to delve into key aspects of the wheat industry.

The focus is on flour fortification, which has the potential to reduce micronutrient deficiencies in 30 percent. world population, the wheat economy in the face of market volatility and India’s important role in increasing global food security as the world’s second largest wheat producer.

Flour enrichment

The session titled ‘Nutrition India: Role of Fortified Flour in Public Health’, attended by Sanjeev Asthana, CEO, Patanjali Foods, among others, presented the current trends and prospects of flour fortification.

The session entitled “Wheat Economics: Demand, Supply and Prices” provided a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of the global wheat market. Arnaud Petit, Executive Director of the International Grains Council, presented an overview of the global supply and demand dynamics, emphasizing resilience to economic changes.

The session on ‘Grains for Peace: India’s Role in Global Food Security’ highlighted the country’s significant contribution to technological advancement and supply chain resilience.

The project ‘Innovations and challenges in the wheat supply chain: from flour to consumer’ examined advances in processing, milling and bakery product development technologies.

Ajay Goyal, chairman of WPPS, said the strategies discussed will guide the industry’s efforts to promote the development of the wheat industry, support innovation and maximize its contribution to global food security.
