Call of Duty is no stranger to being banned from release in various countries around the world over the years, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is no exception. Due to the violent nature of Call of Duty, its sometimes controversial content, and of course the political nature of telling stories within the confines of real world wars, Call of Duty games have been banned for years. Not in the United States, but in other parts of the world.

For those who don’t know: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 takes place during/during the Gulf War, or at least its campaign. The Gulf War is not as often explored as other wars of the 20th century, but it has been the backdrop for games in the past.

At the center of the Gulf War was Iraq, led by Saddam Hussein, and a coalition of 42 countries led by the United States. The war was – at least officially – the direct result of Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, which it took control of within two days. This sparked a global response, spread across two campaigns that took place between 1990 and 1991: Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.

History aside, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 may have been banned from release in Kuwait through impersonation or, more precisely, its release was not “approved” in the country. This is according to Activision, which relayed the information a week after the release.

Anyone in this part of the world who has already pre-ordered Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – on any platform – will have their pre-order canceled and refunded.

Activision hasn’t explained why Kuwait refused to release the game, but it’s undoubtedly because the game takes place during the Gulf War, which certainly remains a painful memory for the nation. That said, for now, this is just speculation. To that end, if more information on the subject surfaces, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.
