Nxtra by Airtel joins RE100 initiative, commits to 100% renewable energy

Nxtra by Airtel has joined the RE100 initiative – a flagship global initiative led by Climate Group in partnership with CDP – and has committed to sourcing 100% renewable energy.

With this, Nxtra becomes the only data centre organisation in India to commit to RE100 and 14t The Indian company achieved this milestone, highlighting its commitment to environmental sustainability and its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2031.

The company has significantly increased its use of renewable energy and has contracted 422,000 MWh of renewable energy to date. In fiscal year 2023-24, Nxtra saved ~156,595 tCO2e of emissions by sourcing renewable energy through power purchase agreements (PPAs) and its own rooftop solar plants.

Nxtra by Airtel has sustainability at the core of its business operations and is committed to building a greener future in line with its mission to be “Responsible by Choice and Sustainable by Design”. As part of this, the company has implemented a multi-pronged approach that combines technological innovation, operational excellence and comprehensive interventions to ensure operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. It has adopted multiple interventions to reduce scope 1 and 2 absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its operations and achieve net zero emissions by fiscal year 2031.
