Are Fireworks Illegal in Toledo? Rules and Regulations You Need to Know

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – People love fireworks on the 4th of July. Local law enforcement, on the other hand, maybe not so much.

Fireworks are an essential part of the Fourth of July celebration, but there are local rules and regulations to consider before deciding to host a fireworks show in your backyard.

Depending on where you live and the type of fireworks being fired, private fireworks displays may be illegal.

Ohioans can legally set off fireworks on some holidays, but Toledo and other northwestern Ohio localities, including Bowling Green and Tiffin, have reversed that ban, banning fireworks intended for personal use.

This means fireworks, bottle rockets, Roman candles and fountains are illegal.

However, fireworks such as sparklers, glow snakes, and smoke bombs can be used with caution.

Only adults are allowed to display them outdoors and anyone viewing them should exercise caution.

The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office wrote on social media that while fireworks are illegal, the sheriff recommends people not call 911 unless it is an emergency.
