Search continues for Manitoulin Island woman last seen on October 2

Police urge M’Chigeeng residents to check any area where someone may have sought shelter

A number of police services are continuing their search for a Manitoulin Island woman who was last seen in M’Chigeeng in early October.

A press release issued by the OPP states that Juanita Migwans, 30, has not been seen or heard from since the morning of October 2. She was reported missing on October 7.

“Police are urging residents of M’Chigeeng and surrounding areas to diligently check their properties, outbuildings and any areas where someone may have sought refuge,” the new statement said.

The United Chiefs and Councils of the Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Force (UCCM Police) and the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue their intensive efforts to locate Juanita Migwans, 30, who has been missing since October 2, 2024. .

The OPP would like to reassure the public that the search continues. Police are urging residents in and around M’Chigeeng to diligently check their properties, outbuildings and any areas where someone may have sought refuge.

While there is no new information at this time, police continue to work on this investigation and more information will be shared as it becomes available.

On October 7, 2024, UCCM Police received a report of a missing person identified as Juanita Migwans, 30, of M’Chigeeng, who was last seen walking on Highway 551 and Oakhill Drive in M’Chigeeng on October 2. 8:24 p.m. around 10:30 a.m. She was wearing a light-colored jacket and dark-colored pants.

Juanita Migwans is described as an Indigenous woman, of slim build, approximately 5’6″ (168 cm) tall, weighing 110 pounds (50 kg), with brown hair and brown eyes.

The investigation is being led by the Manitoulin OPP Criminal Unit in conjunction with UCCM Police, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
