Colin Farrell and his long-time friend Emma Fogarty raised more than £475,000 when they appeared on Late Late on Friday.

The 48-year-old Irish actor will take part in the Irish Life Dublin Marathon in Ireland next week to raise money for a skin disease charity.

Colin’s close friend Emma is Ireland’s longest-surviving human battling the terrible genetic disease epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

The Hollywood icon thanked the public for supporting her charity run after raising a huge amount of donations thanks to her TV appearance.

Colin will run the marathon to mark Emma’s recent 40th birthday, which will represent every decade of her life – a milestone she never thought she would reach.

When Colin reaches the last 4 kilometers, Emma will join him in a wheelchair to finish the race.

People with this genetic disorder currently have a life expectancy of around 30 to 35 years.

Speaking to host Patrick Kielty during the show, Colin said: “There are four forms of the illness and Emma has the most serious.

“She is the third person in Ireland with this type of EB to reach the age of 40 – truly a miracle and a legend.”

Emma said: “Four kilometers doesn’t seem like much to a lot of people – there are people here who probably run 10km every day or 5km or whatever.

“For me, it’s going to be a very long journey because the potholes, the ramps, even a stone on the road, I will feel them all.”

Farrell’s early years in the industry were marked by drug-fueled parties, high-profile romances, a sex tape and controversial interviews.

Now in his second act, the actor is a completely changed man: sober, successful and family-oriented.

Spurred into action by fatherhood (Farrell and his former girlfriend, model Kim Bordenave welcomed their eldest son James in 2003), he checked himself into rehab in 2006 after filming Miami Vice.

James, who suffers from a rare neurogenetic disorder called Angelman syndrome, was “a big part of my decision to put the bottle down,” Farrell told People magazine.

“I was in no condition to be a friend, much less the father of a child whose needs are so demanding. So without my sobriety, I wouldn’t be able to be there for James, enjoy the wonders of his life and support him in the ways I think I can…’

Describing his son as “magical”, Farrell added that he “burst into tears” when James took his first steps at the age of four.

He has now created the Colin Farrell Foundation inspired by his two sons, which aims to transform the lives of individuals and families living with intellectual disabilities.
