OneCart.co.za’s ‘Precious’ video has reached almost a million views

The clip features van Vuuren, one of South Africa’s most decorated artists, playing the role of a former online shopping hobbit struggling to choose which items to buy.

Thalissa Pillay, Chief Growth Officer at OneCart.co.za, says they wanted to communicate their unique selling proposition in a groundbreaking way.

A clip that went viral illustrates the idea. Customers can order items from several retail partners at once, which are then selected by shoppers and delivered within 60 minutes.

“We wondered what pop culture figure would be most interesting to pair with a mobile shopping experience?” he explains.

Who would make a great local Gollum?

Van Vuuren, an award-winning South African comedian and actor, explains that his interest really piqued when he checked his Twitter/X account a few weeks ago.

“I found myself tagged in a conversation about South African artists and ‘who would make a great local Gollum’. Based on a few responses, it turns out it was me.”
