CBS veiledly attacks Trump for accusing him of “misleadingly” editing Harris’ 60 Minutes interview; the ex-president fumes

’60 Minutes’ has broken its silence following Donald Trump’s claim that the CBS news magazine manipulated his Oct. 7 interview with Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in an effort to support her .

Following CBS’ statement, Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt continued to criticize 60 Minutes for falsely claiming that the network “admitted to doing exactly what President Trump accused them of doing.”

In response to Trump’s accusation of misleading manipulation of the interview, CBS released a statement Sunday saying, “This is false.”

“60 Minutes gave an excerpt of our interview to Face the Nation that used a section of his response that was longer than that of 60 Minutes. Same question. Same answer. But a different part of the answer. When we edit an interview, whether it is with a politician, athlete or movie star, we strive to be clear, precise and to the point,” the statement said.

“The 60 Minutes portion of his response was more succinct, leaving time for other topics in a broad 21-minute segment,” he adds.

Making a veiled dig at Trump, CBS recalled that “Trump opted out” of the interview with 60 Minutes, but Harris participated.

He said, however, that their long-standing invitation to Trump was still open. “If he would like to discuss the issues facing the nation and the Harris interview, we would be happy to have him on 60 Minutes.”

Earlier Sunday, Trump, during an interview on Fox’s MediaBuzz, said his Democratic rival should be investigated for her appearance on “60 Minutes.” He reiterated his claims that the interview with correspondent Bill Whitaker was manipulated by CBS News. “They took out the entire response and put a completely different response in his appearance — it makes him look normal,” Trump told host Howard Kurtz.

Trump campaign responds to CBS News statement

Following CBS’ statement, Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt continued to criticize 60 Minutes for falsely claiming that the network “admitted to doing exactly what President Trump accused them of doing.”

“They edited a different answer – from a different part of her answer – to make Kamala Harris seem less incoherent than she actually was,” Leavitt added, according to CNN.

Earlier this month, Trump demanded that CBS “lose its license” in response to his claims that the network had edited Harris’ remark to “make it sound better.” Jessica Rosenworcel, chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission, denounced Trump’s statement as a “threat to free speech.”
