Amit Shah accuses Congress of neglecting cooperative sector’s demand for independent ministry

AHMEDABAD: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday accused the Congress of neglecting the demand for an independent ministry for the cooperative sector. Addressing an event called ‘Sahkar Se Samriddhi’ in Ahmedabad, marking the 102nd International Cooperative Day, Amit Shah praised Prime Minister Modi for addressing the demand and setting up a Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

“For years, the cooperative sector was yearning for its own dedicated ministry, but the Congress did not see the need for such a step. Recognising the unique needs of the sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set up an independent ministry. Let us applaud the visionary step of the Prime Minister,” said Amit Shah.

Shah highlighted the historical significance of the cooperative movement, emphasizing its deep-rooted presence and vital role in the rural economy. He pointed out that despite earlier obstacles, the movement had experienced a revival.

During his speech, Shah expanded on successes in two key areas: ethanol production and corn farming.

“The government has simplified the maize purchasing process by introducing online transactions in THSH and MSP, which ensures fair prices to farmers,” he said.

“The Chief Minister of Gujarat has taken a crucial decision regarding nano-urea. Nano-urea and nano-DAP have been given 50% subsidy. I appeal to farmers to avoid using granular urea after applying nano-urea to their crops as it can be harmful to both crops and soil. Liquid nano-urea and liquid nano-DAP are enough to ensure crop health and productivity,” Shah said.

“The government has reduced prices, so please make use of this opportunity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced ‘Drone Didi Scheme’ and I encourage training of women in using drones for spraying fertilisers,” he said.
