Clonoulty Rossmore is one of the serious candidates for the Under-21 title

Clonoulty/Rossmore made it two wins from two games as they overcame the challenge of underdogs Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams at the Dillon Quirke GAA Grounds Clonoulty on Wednesday night.

In front of a good crowd, on a well-presented pitch, in a match with little or no wind, a full-strength home team dominated the visitors from the start.

The difference between the sides in the first half was the Clonoulty forwards’ ability to score vital goals; The first goal came three minutes from the stick of Seamus Kennedy after falling into Robert Doyle’s trap.

Kickhams got back on level terms eight minutes later when Jamie Duncan broke into the goalmouth at the end of a long free and put the ball past Jason O’Dwyer.

This was a situation where the home side would come close to causing an upset as they progressed. Stephen Ferncombe found the net from the penalty spot before Seamus Kennedy struck with his second on the quarter hour mark to put the home side in the eighth position.

Clonoulty ended the game as a contest with two great strikes in the second quarter, one from Robert Doyle ten minutes before the break and the other from Alex Carroll just before half-time.

The third quarter was adequate with eight points shared but Clonoulty pushed home in the final quarter with goals from Robert Doyle on fifty-seven minutes and Seamus Kennedy two minutes later who slammed home after a good run.
