Wavepiston and Orsted to collaborate on combined wind and wave energy

The collaboration will enable the analysis of the benefits of combining offshore wind and wave energy and will demonstrate the potential for optimising energy extraction from natural resources available in Danish waters.

Co-locating offshore wind and wave energy brings a number of benefits, including:

Increased energy production: Harnessing both wind and waves can lead to increased overall energy production in the same area.

Greater grid stability: Combining wind and wave power can provide a more stable and reliable electricity supply, reducing supply instability issues.

Cost savings: Sharing infrastructure such as transmission lines, offshore operations and surveillance can significantly reduce operating costs.

Environmental benefits: Installing renewable energy technologies together can minimise negative environmental impacts compared to separate installations.

Emiel Schut, CCO, says: “We are excited about the opportunities this collaboration creates and the positive impact it can have on the environment and the energy market in the future.”
