The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Devices Team confiscated and destroyed 150 pounds of fireworks.

July 7, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials announce that on Thursday, July 4, 2024, the Enforcement Team (SET) and Lake Elsinore Station Investigation Bureau took a proactive approach to combat illegal and dangerous fireworks in our communities. Each year, numerous medical emergencies, some fatal, occur due to the discharge and possession of dangerous fireworks.

During the operation, numerous individuals were contacted, issued tickets, and informed of the dangers of setting off illegal fireworks in their communities. In total, 56 tickets were issued for possession of fireworks and one felony for possession with intent to distribute fireworks. Approximately 150 pounds of fireworks were confiscated and later destroyed by the Riverside Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Devices Team.

The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Department encourages the communities we serve to celebrate national holidays in a safe environment and leave the fireworks/pyrotechnics noises to the professionals.

As a reminder, Community Policing involves partnerships between law enforcement and community members. Business owners and residents are encouraged to report criminal activity directly to law enforcement by calling Sheriff’s Dispatch at (951) 776-1099 or 911 if the matter is an emergency.
