Christchurch City Council plugs $13.7m digital program funding shortfall

Christchurch City Council has added $13.7 million to its 2025 long-term budget, which is set to be extended to 2024, to address funding shortfalls in its digital program.

Key project activities included an information management transformation program, a SAP enhancement program focused on asset management, and data network modernization.

May also saw the launch of a new intranet called “The Hub” and the Sharepoint Online platform.

“Due to previous approvals for the digital capital programme, it has been determined that there will be a funding shortfall for the digital 23/24 capital programme,” said the council’s director general for finance, risk and performance, Bede Carran News for sellers.

To address this, the digital capital budget has been “re-phased” to keep agreed-upon projects on track, he said. Digital was met with a re-forecasted spend of $24.2 million.

Minutes from the committee meetings in June show that a project called “best practices in public procurement” also encountered some technical difficulties.
