Google removes the extra search box from your search results

For years, Google has included an additional search box in some search results, encouraging you to dig deeper and search only within a specific website. But now that sitelink search box is disappearing because “usage has declined.”

It’s been over a decade since we initially announced the sitelinks search box in Google Search, and over time we’ve noticed its usage has declined. In this context, and to simplify search results, we will remove this visual element from November 21, 2024.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, it will probably make more sense if you see it:

See this little search box under the link for The New York Times? This is what Google is taking away. You can use this feature as a shortcut to search for something in THE New York Times (or any other website that offers it). After the November deadline, Google will no longer display the box in all languages and countries.

If I hadn’t seen that Google ad, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed its disappearance because I basically never used the thing. Overall, this is a small tweak among many changes to Google’s search engine as it leverages AI and reshuffles the search team.
