Impact of Indigenous 28nm IoT Ready MCU on Indian Gadget Space

In an exclusive interview with Dataquest, Shashvath TR, Co-founder and CEO of Mindgrove Technologies, presents its revolutionary Secure IoT chip. This chip, designed and built in India, promises to shake up the domestic gadget market with its emphasis on long-term security. Let’s take a closer look and see how this innovation will redefine our connected devices, from smartwatches to everyday devices.

Why did you choose a 28nm manufacturing process for your first chip?

The 28nm node is the “Goldilocks node.” It is old enough to be mature, but new enough to offer high performance. It is also easy to design compared to newer ones, being a silicon node (compared to FinFET). In the case of 28nm, most of the features can be added at a very competitive price. Finally, production capacity is overcapacity, which means we will not easily hit production bottlenecks.

What are the benefits of a secure IoT beyond security issues?

Secure IoT is ideal for connected devices such as smartwatches. But it can also be used in a wide range of devices that are becoming “smart” for the first time, such as smart locks, sockets, Televisions, refrigerators, dishwashers, meters, and more. This system is also ideal for use in battery management systems (BMS) and vehicle control units (VCU) in electric two-wheelers, as well as in cars. We are curious to see what creative ways engineers will use our system.

In what sectors do you see the use of secure Internet of Things?

EV and automotive

4w: non-safety critical systems with low computational requirements.

2w: BMS, VCU etc.

Wearable devices

Smartwatches

Modern houses

E.g. smart locks, fans, lighting, sockets, speakers, etc.

Consumer electronics

Devices

Smart meters

Utility meters

Safety devices

Access control

Can you name the gadgets that will benefit the most from a secure IoT and what additional features can OEM/ODM manufacturers leverage?

As mentioned previously, Secure IoT can be used in a wide range of devices. Devices built on Secure IoT are not only safer, but also much more reliable. We are confident that these devices will last much longer than the typical 6-12 months currently found on the market. This increased security and reliability should inspire confidence in our partners.

Could you tell us a bit about what your next product will focus on?

Our next chip is the MG Vision SoC. This system is designed to process image and video data, which makes it an ideal solution for configuring cameras in security systems, vehicles, and other devices.
