The new MRP MinyaKitas regulations will be published soon: Ministry

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Commerce assures that the maximum retail price (MRP) of MinyaKita will increase in the near future and new regulations will be released soon.

The director of the ministry’s Department of Basic Needs and Essential Commodities, Bambang Wisnubroto, stated that talks on the MRP increase for MinyaKita have been held eight times with related ministries and institutions as well as business entities.

“The MRP increase has indeed been set for an increase. Eight studies have been discussed with ministries and institutions, and a public hearing was also held,” Wisnubroto said at the virtual Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Monday.

Furthermore, Wisnubroto noted that work is currently underway on drafting regulations on MRP, which aim to further harmonise them.

“We are currently waiting for the harmonization application to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Hence, new regulations regarding MRP for edible oil will be issued in the near future,” he revealed.

Wisnubroto said that under the new rules, the government will no longer require producers to fulfil the domestic market obligation (DMO) for bulk oil.

According to Wisnubroto, the DMO will only apply to the MinyaKita program. Therefore, the Ministry of Trade has called on regional authorities to conduct checks and inspections to anticipate speculative activities that will limit the sale of cooking oil.

“We ask that a market inspection be carried out to anticipate speculative activities that will inhibit the sale of cooking oil, especially MinyaKita, pending the issuance of regulations,” Wisnubroto said.

Earlier, Commerce Minister Zulkifli Hasan noted that his party had proposed raising the minimum retail price of cooking oil (MinyaKita) to Rs 15,700 per litre.

The Minister stated during a meeting in Bandung, West Java, on Friday (June 28) that he is currently waiting for an amendment to the regulations of the Minister of Trade regarding an increase in the suggested retail price of MinyaKita by Rp 1,700 from the previous price of Rp 14,000 per liter.

“Yes, we are waiting for the Minister of Trade Regulation. In the meantime, I request the Director General of the Ministry of Trade to reduce the price by Rs 15,700 per litre,” the minister noted.

According to Hasan, the price will most likely increase in the near future after the results of the Trade Minister’s regulations proposed by his side are obtained.
