Equans secures delivery of six UK low carbon solar farms

Equans, through its new subsidiary Equans Solar & Storage, has secured a deal with global renewable energy company Low Carbon to design and build six new large-scale solar farms in the UK, four of which will include battery energy storage solutions (BESS).

The total capacity of these photovoltaic installations is 267 MWp, and the total capacity for the BESS portfolio is 95 MW/190 MWh.

These latest solar projects build on Equans’ long-standing partnership with Low Carbon. Since 2014, Equans has delivered four solar sites to Low Carbon, and a further nine large-scale solar farm projects are underway, many of which are approaching power generation.

Together these projects will provide a total targeted capacity of up to 616 MWp. This will generate enough clean renewable electricity to power the equivalent of over 100,000 homes and feed electricity directly into the local distribution grid.

Once operational, the projects are expected to collectively avoid emissions of around 200,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.2e, contributing to the decarbonisation of the energy sector in line with the UK’s net zero emissions ambition.

Gregory Allouis, Energy Solutions Director – UK & Ireland at Equans, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Low Carbon to deliver renewable energy across the UK. Being able to power so many homes means delivering clean energy to thousands of homes while working towards a sustainable future.

“We are committed to delivering high-performance solar farms on time and on budget, ensuring customer expectations are met. We look forward to continuing to develop a strong, long-term partnership with Low Carbon to help power the energy transformation of our societies.”

Justin Thesiger, Managing Director of Global Supply Chain for Low Carbon, added: “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Equans with this latest agreement as we look to continue to expand our renewable energy pipeline in the UK. Equans is a trusted partner to Low Carbon, with whom we have worked for a decade, and has played a key role in delivering clean energy infrastructure that supports the government’s decarbonisation goals.”
