Apple Releases Final Cut Pro for iPad 2, Final Cut Camera, and Mac Updates

Apple has released Final Cut Pro for iPad 2, which brings improvements to take advantage of the higher RAW processing power of the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip. The company could have named the app better instead of calling it “…for iPad 2,” which sounds like an app for the 2nd-generation iPad that was released in 2011. In addition, Final Cut Camera is now available for iPhone and iPad as well.

Both apps were announced in May of this year during Apple’s iPad event, where they unveiled the new iPad Pro, two sizes of iPad Air, and the Apple Pencil Pro. The new iPad Pro with the M4 chip, according to Apple, is capable of rendering 2x faster and supports 4x more ProRes RAW streams compared to the M1 iPad Pro. It’s also important to note that the iPad Pro is the only device to feature M4 chips, none of the Macs have the new chip.

Multi-camera support, manual control and AI features

The new Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 features “Live Multicam” support, which will allow users to wirelessly connect and view up to four cameras at once. Final Cut Camera acts as a companion app, providing manual control over settings. Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 users will have a director’s view of each camera.

In addition, the Final Cut Camera app will allow users to connect multiple iPhones or iPads. The app will automatically upload and sync each angle of the Live Multicam, allowing users to easily start editing post-production. The app also allows users to control shutter speed, focus, ISO, focus peaking, grid overlays, and more on iPhone and iPad.

Apple also released updates to Final Cut Pro for Mac that introduce new AI features, including “Smooth Slow Motion” and “Enhance Light and Color,” which blend video frames to enhance motion and automatically adjust the video for color correction.

Updates to Final Cut Pro for iPad and Final Cut Pro for Mac are available for free to users who have already purchased the software.
