Delivery hero could face €400m antitrust fine

International food ordering service Delivery Hero has revealed that it could be fined more than €400 million ($433.3 million) by European law enforcement for alleged agreements with other online food delivery companies to carve up markets, share information and not hire workers from among themselves.

Delivery Hero said in a statement on Sunday that it could face a “significant fine” over alleged antitrust violations and intends to increase the amount it had previously set aside for the fine, based on recent talks with the European Commission. The company had previously set aside around €186 million toward the anticipated fine, following two unannounced inspections by enforcement authorities.

Increased reserves for potential fines

“The intention to increase the benefit is based on the recent informal engagement with the European Commission and the subsequent detailed analysis,” Sunday said in a statement. “Delivery Hero intends to fully cooperate with the European Commission, as it did during the unannounced inspections in July 2022 and November 2023.”
