Yorkshire-based employee-owned law firm completes strategic acquisition

Ison Harrison, the Yorkshire-based employee-owned law firm, has acquired Leeds-based Cohen Cramer Solicitors. Cohen Cramer, which has a nationwide client base, was formed in 2009 through the merger of Howard Cohen & Co and Cramer Richards.

Since then the firm has built a reputation for specialising in regulatory, personal injury and criminal law, as well as family law, dispute resolution, animal welfare and legal costs. The firm has four directors and 27 staff and last year recorded a turnover in excess of £3 million.

The transaction significantly strengthens Ison Harrison’s presence in the region, increasing its headcount to over 300 across 20 offices across Yorkshire.

Ison Harrison managing director Jonathan Wearing said the acquisition was “testament to our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional and accessible legal services across Yorkshire”.

Wearing continued: “By partnering with the specialist attorneys at Cohen Cramer, we are not only expanding our team, but also enhancing our ability to provide clients with a broader and more comprehensive range of legal services.”

“Cohen Cramer’s strengths in regulatory and criminal law perfectly complement our existing capabilities, and their focus on military and animal injury claims will significantly strengthen our personal injury practice. We are stronger and more comprehensive than ever before.”

Emma Mason, Managing Director of Cohen Cramer, added: “Joining forces with Ison Harrison is a fantastic opportunity for us. The firm’s strong reputation and extensive regional presence will strengthen our ability to provide exceptional service to our clients.”

Ison Harrison will transition to 100% employee ownership in 2022, and the firm says the new ownership structure has fueled growth, leading to significant client expansion and the opening of four new offices.

Wearing said: “Our employee ownership model is a key driver of our success. It ensures that every member of our team is invested in the success of the business, fostering a culture of engagement and excellence that directly benefits our clients.”
