Hasan Minhaj Talks Elizabeth Warren on New Talk Show: Watch

Hasan Minhaj launched a new online talk show on Monday, nearly a year after the comedian was reportedly one of three finalists in a contest to host Daily program. YouTube Series Hasan Minhaj doesn’t know The first episode features an interview with Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. They talked about a wide range of topics, including whether President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are too old to run, the IRS’s free tax filing website, whether people in Congress should own stocks, and government thirst traps, including “Do you want to see Mitch McConnell’s whale tail?”

In response to a question about what is considered too old to run for elected office, Warren says ability has more to do with effective policymaking than age. “So I think there’s a tool, but I don’t think it’s measured in age, I mean years,” Warren said. “I think it’s measured in, ‘Do I think the laws in government should be all about protecting those who already have it,’ or should it be, ‘We’ve done it, but you’ve got to invest a lot of it in the future,’ so the next person who comes along can do it.”

During the 30-minute segment, Minhaj also questioned the morality of current and former presidents, saying the presidency opens a “Puff Daddy door” through which one can enter elected office as a “sociopath and leave it as a war criminal.”

“I’m actually glad you didn’t become president,” Minhaj Warren said in the episode. “Because I don’t know how President Elizabeth Warren could remain Elizabeth Warren. I mean, I don’t know if a president can be a good person.”

Warren, who expressed support for Biden throughout the speech, referenced her experience running for the Massachusetts Senate against former Republican Senator Scott Brown.

“How would I feel if I didn’t try, and it’s not OK not to try,” Warren said. “If you think the fight is important, you can’t just step back and say, ‘You know what? This could cost me a lot. I could make a lot of mistakes. I could be wrong. I could have a lot of painful moments in this.’ But, damn, there are certain things you have to say, ‘I’m just going to try,’ and I think that’s what happens in elected office.”

Following Trevor Noah’s departure from Daily program in 2022 they were Daily show correspondent was considered as a possible host for the nearly three-decade-long talk show. Minhaj, however, was likely removed from consideration after New Yorker published an article detailing his history of making up stories during his stand-up comedy routines. Among the controversial stories he told: Minhaj joked about being dumped by his prom date because of the color of his skin, told a story about an FBI informant named “Brother Eric” who joined a Sacramento mosque, and said his daughter was exposed to white powder and suggested it was anthrax sent through the mail, which led to her later hospitalization, among other lies.

“Emotional truth is the most important thing,” Minhaj said. New Yorker“The factual truth is of secondary importance.”

When Minhaj joked about his fake jokes during the Netflix Is a Joke festival in May, he said his professional faux pas saved the talk show thanks to the return of longtime host Jon Stewart.

“We’ve all failed in life, but have you ever failed so badly that you brought back Jon Stewart?” Minhaj said. “I saved a dying institution. There you go.”
