Making farming profitable again

Agriculture as an economic sector has rarely received the strategic support it deserves. Since the Green Revolution, India has witnessed many changes in its economic profile. New sectors of the economy have emerged over the last five decades and the way India has embraced them to evolve as a developing economy is an example of the support needs of agriculture. Take information technology for example. Within two decades of its arrival in India as a new age economic sector, India has put all its strength into becoming a global IT leader. On the other hand, the government’s approach towards farmers and agriculture, which feeds all Indians, has not been one of consistent support, except through politically correct programmes and budgets.
