Search for Jack McLennan narrowed with homicide detectives involved

Police say they are very concerned about the disappearance of a man from the South Burnett area of Queensland amid reduced widespread search efforts.

Jack McLennan, 27, was last seen on October 4 at Ficks Crossing, a popular fishing spot near the town of Murgon, three hours northwest of Brisbane.

Police, state emergency service volunteers and officers from specialist teams, including dog and dive teams, have been searching an area west of Murgon for two weeks.

So far, a hat and a pair of shoes belonging to the Sunshine Coast man have been located near Ficks Crossing and in Murgon, but no other signs of the 27-year-old have been detected.

Acting Detective Inspector Brian Collins said the search for Mr McLennan had been scaled back, but future more focused searches for the missing man were possible.

He said homicide investigators were called to assist.

“(Jack’s disappearance) is quite unusual, which is why we have engaged specialist investigators to try and assist local detectives,” Acting Inspector Collins said.

“These are specialist investigators who can offer assistance to our local detectives with regards to specialist methodologies.”

Acting Inspector Collins said people Mr McLennan had been with before his disappearance were co-operating with investigators.

Earlier this month, police released CCTV footage of Mr McLennan at a bottle shop in Murgon, dressed in the clothes they believe he was wearing when he disappeared.

Police are appealing to a person who camped overnight in the Ficks Crossing area as they may have information about the 27-year-old’s disappearance.
