A major search operation is underway for the second day in a bid to find a missing personal trainer who fell into Dovestone Reservoir.

The man, now publicly identified as Simon Daniels, a personal trainer from Winsford, Cheshire, was reported missing after falling into the water during a paddleboarding incident with a woman, believed to be his partner, on Sunday after- noon (October 20).


Emergency services were alerted shortly before 2:30 p.m. following the report of a man and a woman in the water. The woman was later rescued and treated for hypothermia and shock, it was reported.

Search efforts continued through the night, with specialist police water rescue units and fire crews attending the scene to try to locate Simon, who is still missing.


Emergency crews cordoned off all surrounding roads and footpaths and launched a large-scale search operation involving firefighters, paramedics and police. Specialist divers could be seen searching the reservoir on boats while coastguard and mountain rescue teams were also present, the Manchester Evening News reports.

On Sunday evening at around 7.35pm, Greater Manchester Police announced that underwater teams would continue their search of the reservoir overnight. On Monday morning, a force spokesperson confirmed there had been no updates to the searches overnight.


Police have advised people to avoid the area of ​​Dovestone Reservoir, near Oldham, Greater Manchester this morning. Specialist teams are “conducting further assessments” of the reservoir.

Social media was flooded with heartfelt messages. “Come on bro, we’re all praying for you,” one message read, while another expressed hope with: “I really hope and pray for Simon Daniels. Please God don’t let Not that that would happen to such a lovely guy.”

An additional message reflects the town’s heavy heart: “Winsford is in a very heartbreaking impasse at this time, all hoping and praying for your safe return, but also understanding that this may not be the case. But you have a city that prays so hard for you, don’t you? NOW. With love and support.

Greater Manchester Police provided an update on Monday with their latest statement: “Officers were in attendance at Dovestone Reservoir until late last night searching for a man who had entered the water earlier in the afternoon.”

“Specialist teams will carry out further assessments this morning as they continue their search, using all appropriate resources available. We ask people to avoid the area whilst this work is carried out and thank the public for their continued patience .”
