Austin Public Schools Makes Policy Changes – ABC 6 News

Austin School Board on SROS

(ABC 6 News) – Austin Public Schools held a school board meeting Monday to discuss policy changes.

This followed changes introduced by legislators that determined how school protection officers manage discipline in schools.

Changes have been made to allow SROs to monitor students who need to be restrained or removed from school grounds.

Changes have also been made to their violence and harassment policy to reflect the legislation. Superintendent Dr. Joey Page stated that “some of the operational definitions of terms have come out of the legislation, so our policies need to reflect that.”

School board members will also change. Four seats on the board will be empty, one of which will require a special election due to the resignation of board member Kathy Green.
