Viewpoint: US regulatory pendulum swings toward gas industry

U.S. regulatory practice appears to be rapidly shifting in favor of the gas and LNG industries. Federal regulatory authority has been curtailed in the past month, and reduced oversight of LNG projects could provide a boost to the U.S.’s future as an energy exporter. Despite these benefits, much remains unknown—regulatory agencies could continue to delay project approvals, for example—and all of this will come to a head in the contentious U.S. presidential election in November.
