Acomo takes over Caldic’s nut and dried food business

Acomo, the Dutch group producing plant-based food ingredients, has agreed to acquire Caldic Food Service and Retail, a nut and dried fruit business in Northern Europe.

The aim of the acquisition is to further strengthen Acomo’s spices and nuts segment and to create a starting point for expansion into the Nordic markets in Europe.

It includes Caldic Food Service and Retail (FSR), which operates an office and production facility in Malmö, Sweden. The company operates primarily in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany.

FSR supplies a range of nuts, seeds, pips, dried fruit, pulses and marzipan to wholesale and retail customers, the food industry and the out-of-home market. It also operates its own retail brand, Naturens Energi, and produces its own almond-based marzipan.

Following the completion of the transaction, FSR will be renamed “Delinuts Nordics” and will operate in partnership with Acomo’s Dutch subsidiary Delinuts to explore new markets and opportunities.

Allard Goldschmeding, CEO of Acomo, said: “This bolt-on acquisition enables us to establish a local presence in the Nordic markets. Commercial Director Patrick Wibroe and his team will undoubtedly give a significant boost to the forecasted growth of our Spices & Nuts segment.”

He added: “Combining trade with new value-added services such as packaging, roasting and custom manufacturing is a proven approach to strengthening our position in the supply chains in which we operate, enabling us to respond to growing customer demand.”

Gustav Larsson, Managing Director of Caldic Nordics, expressed his confidence that the dried fruit and nuts business will continue to grow under Acomo, as this segment plays a key role in the strategy.

He commented: “This agreement ensures our customers will continue to receive the products and brands they value, but as part of Delinuts’ innovative offering. Upon completion of the agreement, we will work with Acomo to ensure uninterrupted supply while we transfer our manufacturing, products and brands to Delinuts.”

The proposed acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2024. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
