Chubb strengthens its global team with several executive appointments

Property and casualty insurer Chubb has announced a number of new appointments, including the appointment of Paul McNamee as executive vice president, Chubb Group and president, Overseas General Insurance.

TuftWith nearly three decades of insurance industry experience, McNamee, who currently serves as senior vice president of Chubb Group and regional president of Asia Pacific, will lead the executive and operational leadership of Chubb’s general insurance business in 51 countries outside North America.

He succeeds Juan Luis Ortega, who has been named president, North America Insurance, reporting to Evan G. Greenberg, chairman and CEO, and John Keogh, president and chief operating officer.

Greenberg commented: “It is a pleasure to appoint Paul as head of our international general insurance operations. I have worked closely with Paul for many years and have watched him develop into a formidable executive.

“He is an accomplished underwriter and business leader. His many years of experience have given him a tremendous ability to manage a wide range of commercial and consumer businesses across multiple countries and cultures. He finds a way to win.”

Marcos Gunn, who has more than 25 years of industry and currency experience, is senior vice president of Chubb Group and regional president of Latin America. He will succeed McNamee as head of Asia Pacific.

Federico Spagnoli will remain as Division President, Consumer Lines, Overseas General Insurance and will also assume leadership of the company’s Latin America region, replacing Gunn. Both Gunn and Spagnoli will report to McNamee.

Chubb also announced executive appointments in its North America general insurance business. John Lupica, who was vice president and president of Chubb Group, has been named executive chairman of North America Insurance.

As executive chairman, Lupica will provide executive oversight, including strategy, management and policy focus, for Chubb’s North American insurance business.

Juan Luis Ortega, currently executive vice president of Chubb Group and president of Overseas General Insurance, will succeed Lupica as president of North America Insurance.

With more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, Ortega will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of North America Insurance, both in terms of revenue and profit, and will report directly to Lupica.

Scott Meyer, previously senior vice president of Chubb Group and president of Chubb’s Westchester division, which focuses on wholesale excess and surplus lines insurance, will be Chubb’s new chief operating officer for North America Insurance.

Additionally, Christopher Maleno, senior vice president of Chubb Group, has been named vice president of insurance, North America. He brings more than 35 years of insurance industry experience to his new role.

He will continue in his current role as president of North American field operations and will report to Ortega.

All appointments are effective immediately, according to Chubb.

“Chubb is the largest commercial and high-net-worth insurer in the United States, and our North American business is a large company in its own right. We are bringing an incredibly strong team of experienced Chubb leaders to the top of the division.”
