Bomb-plagued man arrested in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA — San Jose police have arrested a man they suspect planted an improvised explosive device near businesses, prompting evacuations and the dispatch of a bomb squad to dispose of the device.

At 10:06 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a bomb threat at a business in the 1300 block of Ridder Park Drive. The suspect called police and said he had placed an explosive device behind the business.
Arriving officers found a suspicious device. The department’s bomb disposal unit determined that the item was an incomplete but functional IED.

The bomb disposal unit secured the cargo and searched the area for more explosives, but found none.

During the search, police said they identified the suspect as Felix Arnaz. Officers found Arnaz in his vehicle near Ruby Avenue and Aborn Road and took him into custody.

As a precaution, nearby businesses were evacuated while bomb disposal squad officers cleaned up the vehicle, which police found no other explosives inside.

Arnaz was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of possessing a destructive device.
