Triumph motorcycles get a new satnav that lets you put your smartphone away

Navigation devices are probably one of the most important inventions of our time. No matter what form they take, from smartphone apps to dedicated hardware, these gadgets are now so much a part of our lives that it is hard to imagine traveling, whether by car or motorcycle, without them.

Since most of us now have a smartphone, this is the tool most of us use for our daily journeys, whether in direct mode or using some kind of mirroring. But there are still manufacturers of dedicated navigation devices in the world, and they seem to continue to release new devices.

One such company is Beeline. The group has dedicated its work to developing navigation solutions for bicycles and motorcycles – something that is still needed in this segment, given the limitations of using a smartphone to get navigation instructions while riding.

Beeline currently sells something called the Moto and Moto II solutions, the latter of which launched earlier this year. They’re Beeline-branded, of course, but there have been cases where the company has partnered with established bike manufacturers to create special versions of the solution.

The company first did this in 2021 with the launch of British company Triumph’s Moto device, and this week we were informed that motorcyclists will now receive Triumph’s Moto II version of the Beeline device.

The gadget is officially called the Triumph Beeline Moto II special edition and was originally intended as an accessory for the Bonneville series motorcycles, but technically it could be fitted to virtually all Triumph motorcycles.

At its core, the hardware remains the same as the Beeline setup. It has a 1.45-inch screen, larger than the previous version, that provides turn-by-turn navigation, and a 600mAh battery that should hold enough juice to last for 14 hours. A USB-C charging cable is included to restore power when the battery runs out.

The screen is protected by a machined IP67 waterproof and shock-resistant casing. The casing features a laser-etched Triumph logo, and the gadget can be mounted on bikes using one of several mounting options. To operate it, the rider simply touches the glove-friendly buttons on the device.

The Triumph Beeline Moto II requires an Android or iOS phone to work, but also a dedicated, free app called Beeline. Once set up, the Moto II will give the rider access to turn-by-turn navigation, a mini-map feature, and junction instructions. There’s even the ability to share routes with other drivers.

Triumph says the new device will be available for purchase later this month. The price has been set at £199 in the UK, which is about $255 for Americans.
