Enerkem announces appointment of new CEO

MONTREAL, July 10, 2024 /CNW/ – Enerkem, a leading supplier of technologies that enable the production of low-carbon fuels and chemicals from waste, is pleased to announce the appointment of Michel Chornet as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), replacing Dominique Boyes in this role. This announcement follows a series of significant changes to prepare for the next phase of the company’s development.

Michel Chornet, who has been an integral part of Enerkem’s management team for many years, assumes the position of CEO with immediate effect. This appointment was natural, as Michel’s family founded Enerkem in 2000 with co-founders Esteban Chornet (his father) and Vincent Chornet (his deceased brother). Michel brings over 25 years of experience in technology development, business development, plant establishment, efficiency, business financing and growth management, as well as R&D. He has worked at Enerkem for over 17 years in various management positions, and has notably led the business development and technology management activities.

Michel succeeded Dominique Boyeswho has helped Enerkem achieve key milestones over the past seven years. Dominique Boyes first served as Enerkem’s CFO, then assumed the role of CEO in 2019. Under his leadership, Enerkem achieved significant milestones, including key milestones such as the launch of the first-of-its-kind commercial Enerkem project Coal recycling Varennes currently under construction in Quebecimplementing numerous large projects and securing strategic financial partnerships.

Reflecting on Dominique’s contributions, Michel expressed his immense gratitude for his predecessor’s leadership and dedication. “Dominique has laid a solid foundation for Enerkem’s future success, and I am honored to build on that foundation,” Michel noted. “Dominique will forever be a part of Enerkem’s journey, and we sincerely thank him for his contributions.”
