Atlantic Shores, Attentive Energy Bid for New Jersey Offshore Wind Farm

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind and Attentive Energy have submitted proposals for the fourth bidding round for an offshore wind farm in New Jersey.

The call for applications for the fourth round in New Jersey was open from April 30 to July 10, 2024. The aim of the call is to attract projects best suited to bringing offshore wind energy to this US state.

Atlantic Shores submitted proposals for Atlantic Shores 1 and 2 projects with capacities of 1,510 MW and 1,327 MW, respectively, stating that the projects “are best positioned to deliver safe, reliable, renewable energy in support of New Jersey’s goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2035 and installing 11,000 megawatts of offshore wind by 2040.”

Combined, these projects will generate more than 2,800 MW of electricity, enough to power more than one million New Jersey homes.

If selected, Atlantic Shores 1 and 2 would be pioneers for offshore wind in New Jersey and would enable all future offshore wind projects to be built this decade, according to Atlantic Shores, a joint venture between Shell New and EDF.

“Our proposal expands and strengthens existing strategic partnerships while expanding our portfolio of economic development initiatives in the Garden State. Working with our community partners, we aim to continue to secure critical supply chain investments that will create good-paying union jobs, support local workforce development and contribute to economic prosperity across New Jersey,” said Joris Veldhoven, CEO of Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind.

The proposal by Attentive Energy, a joint venture of Corio Generation and TotalEnergies, follows the securing of an Offshore Renewable Energy Credit (OREC) in New Jersey for the Attentive Energy Two (AE2) project in early 2024.

Alternative Energy said with the new proposal, New Jersey is proposing a “coherent and holistic vision” that is expected to build on the momentum and initial successes of the AE2 project.

“This proposal represents a statewide opportunity to continue investing in communities and organizations that will expand offshore wind development opportunities across New Jersey,” Alternative Energy said.
