Murphy reappoints Northern Ireland Health and Safety Executive board members

Economy Minister Conor Murphy has announced five appointments to the board of the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI).

Andrew Cooke, Pat Hart, Simon McDowell, Siobhan Rooney and Gerry Strong have been re-appointed for a three-year term to begin on 1 May 2024.

1. The reappointments were made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office of the Public Appointments Commissioner for Northern Ireland.

3. The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) is an independent public body (NDPB) with Crown status, funded by a grant from the Department of the Economy. It was established on 1 April 1999 by an Order in Council amending the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978. Its mission is to ensure that risks to the health and safety of persons arising from work activities are effectively controlled. The Board of HSENI currently consists of five members.

4. HSENI appointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments (CPANI).

5. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Office of the Northern Ireland Public Appointments Commissioner requires that the political activity of appointees (if any) is published. Reappointed members shall not have engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
