Just Wines expands portfolio with two new acquisitions

Online spirits retailer Just Wines has added two new brands to its growing range of online spirits – Brew Cartel and Brewquets.

Last year, the company bought soft drinks company Sans Drinks after it called in administrators. Meanwhile, in April, Just Wines also extended the life of recently collapsed craft spirits subscription service Liquor Loot.

Just Wines is an e-commerce platform founded in 2012 that sells alcoholic beverages from local and international breweries, distilleries and wineries.

Founder Nitesh Bhatia says the decision comes as a result of the company’s ambition to grow its share of the off-premise alcoholic beverages market in the country.

“We have seen significant growth in the business and expanded its capabilities with the acquisition of Sans Drinks and Liquor Loot,” Bhatia said.

“This latest acquisition means the group now covers all major alcoholic beverage categories in Australia, further strengthening our competitive position.

Launched in 2009, Beer Cartel is a craft beer retailer known for its beer advent calendar. Brewquets launched in 2016 and is known for its online alcohol gifting business. The purchase price for the two companies was not disclosed.

“We recognize Beer Cartel’s success in the online craft beer market over the last 15 years,” Bhatia continued.

“With Brewquets, we see significant synergies across the group’s portfolio. We now have beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks that we can offer as gifts to both consumers and businesses.”

The Just Wines founder said he expects Beer Cartel and Brewquets to maintain their strengths.

“We’re not looking to disrupt these two very successful businesses. We’re just looking at how we can integrate our core capabilities across these great organizations to grow the customer base for each,” he concluded.
