Hanwha Q Cells receives order for solar plant in Colorado

Hanwha Q Cells Co., a solar panel unit of South Korea’s Hanwha Solutions Corp., said Thursday it has secured a large solar power project in Weld County, Colorado, U.S.

The project involves the construction of a solar power plant with an area of 5.6 km2, which is equivalent to 790 football pitches, and the provision of 540,000 solar modules.

Hanwha Q Cells announced Thursday that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the solar plant on Wednesday with local power purchaser Platte River Power Authority (PRPA).

Hanwha Q Cells is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), meaning it will oversee development and construction.

The company plans to complete construction of the power plant and commence commercial operations by 2025.

Under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with PRPA, Hanwha Q Cells will supply electricity from renewable sources.

Hanwha Q Cells is actively operating in the US market, successively winning large contracts for the implementation of renewable energy and EPC projects.

Last May, the project, consisting of 50 megawatts (MW) of solar modules and a 200-megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage system (ESS), was completed and supplies renewable energy to American technology giant Meta.
