Russia banned Discord, and Turkey followed suit shortly after, saying the app had violated the law by failing to remove illegal content from its platform and refusing to help authorities.

The ban on the popular instant messaging platform has cut countless people off from their online communities. However, as unfortunate as it may be, this isn’t the first time Russia (or Turkey) has banned Western platforms – YouTube was also recently restricted in Russia.
