As Head of the U.S. Delegation to the 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield today hosted “Technology to the Table: Harvesting Private Sector Innovation to Advance Food Security” at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. Participants included member states of the African Union; other G20 members; Melike Krilla, Head of International Organizations at Google; Emily Negrin, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Inari; and Helga Flores Trejo, Vice President of International and Multilateral Affairs at Bayer AG. Ambassador Michele Sison, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations, co-moderated the discussion with Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield.

The dialogue focused on leveraging private sector technology and innovation to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger by addressing food security challenges such as climate change. Participants stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors to accelerate action to end hunger, highlighting for example the potential of cutting-edge technologies to support sustainable and resilient agriculture.

Throughout her tenure, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield has kept hunger and food security at the center of the UN Security Council’s agenda. In the past three years alone, the United States has committed more than $20 billion to combat food insecurity, underscoring our commitment to this critical issue.
