The charge sheet against Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Tarn Taran was filed in a special NIA court in Mohali on Monday, according to an official statement.

The NIA has identified the accused as an associate of foreign-based designated terrorists Harwinder Singh Sandhu, alias Rinda, and Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa, of the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

Investigations by the anti-terrorism agency have established his role in a conspiracy hatched by the BKI terrorists to unleash terror in Punjab and other parts of the country, the investigating agency said.

The accused was involved in the RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) attack on the Sarhali police station in Tarn Taran in December 2022, according to NIA investigations, which revealed that he had remained in contact with his agents based abroad from his prison and even after his arrest. release from prison in this case, he said.

NIA investigations further revealed that Gurpreet conspired to raise funds for the BKI and its agents in India through large-scale extortion from businessmen in the direction of Landa. He had also recruited vulnerable youths for the BKI terror module, the NIA said.

Gurpreet had further carried out reconnaissance of the targets identified by Landa and attempted to eliminate these targets, he said.

The NIA, which had seized an illegal weapon from the accused’s house during a search operation in January this year, has charged him under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Code Indian Criminal Code and Arms Act, the statement said.
