Wendy’s Announces Groundbreaking Update for Restaurants Nationwide: ‘We’re Excited’

Fast food just got a lot friendlier.

Wendy’s has partnered with Ampion Renewable Energy, a community solar energy provider, to help its restaurants source clean, renewable energy.

According to Solar Power World, this exciting development means that nearly 140 Wendy’s locations in New York, Illinois and Massachusetts will now get a significant portion of their power from the sun.

Registered Wendy’s restaurants will obtain between 30 and 100 percent of their energy from solar sources installed in their local communities, without having to install a single solar panel.

As the number of solar installations increases, Wendy’s plans to add even more company-operated and franchised restaurants to the innovative Ampion program.

For Wendy’s, this solar partnership is a major step toward its goal of reducing pollution by 47% per restaurant by 2030. It’s also a huge win for the planet, as its registered restaurants collectively use an impressive 27.5 million kilowatt-hours of solar energy per year. That’s enough to take more than 4,000 gas-powered cars off the road.

Even more exciting, this partnership shows that going solar is one of the best ways for businesses to save money on energy while combating air pollution. By sourcing clean energy through Ampion’s community program, Wendy’s and its franchisees can reduce utility bills and operating costs.

For the average American, trying out solar installations using free online tools like EnergySage is a great way to enjoy similar money savings and planet-saving benefits at home.

“We are excited about the opportunity this collaboration presents to our company and franchise restaurant operators to make it easier and more accessible to source clean energy while ultimately realizing cost savings,” said Steven Derwoed, vice president of global design and construction for Wendy’s, according to Solar Power World. “…It’s a win-win for the company and our franchisees.”

Nate Owen, CEO and founder of Ampion, echoed this sentiment, according to the outlet: “This partnership with Wendy’s demonstrates Ampion’s ability to support these organizations in reducing emissions and bringing more renewable energy to the grid for local communities.”
