Panaji: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho appeared visibly upset with RTO officials for failing to enforce motor vehicle regulations on the roads, while reminding them of their duty to regain respect for themselves and their department.

Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho criticizes RTO officials

Speaking on the occasion of the handover of eight RTO enforcement vehicles, Godinho criticised the absence of RTO officers on the roads to curb traffic violations and ensure road discipline.

“It seems that the police have taken over law enforcement while our officers are absent from the action. We have to do our job and take it seriously,” he said.

Godinho noted that this lack of presence has reduced the public’s fear of RTO officials and traffic regulations. “The situation is such that people do whatever they want on the road, regardless of the law. There used to be a certain fear of RTO officials, but not now,” he criticised, ordering them to observe strict discipline to restore respect for themselves and their department.

The minister also maintained that proper enforcement of the rules would reduce the number of road accidents. “Enforcement is our job. We have somehow forgotten about it,” he commented.
