CM Yogi orders transport department officials to ensure strict compliance of road safety rules, ET Infra

LUCKNOW: Days after a bus accident in Unnao claimed the lives of 18 people, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has warned transport department officials that strict action will be taken against the officials responsible if any unauthorised buses are found on roads.

At a high-level meeting held at his official residence, CM Yogi stressed on the importance of thorough checks on the permits, fitness, insurance and drivers of all passenger and school buses plying in the state. CM Yogi directed the Transport Department officials to ensure strict compliance with road safety rules.

Acting in line with the Prime Minister’s directives, the Department of Transport has announced a month-long intensive campaign to curb the movement of unlicensed vehicles.

CM Yogi issued strict directives to the Principal Secretary Transport, questioning how unauthorized buses are allowed to ply freely on state highways. He ordered an uncompromising campaign against such buses and called for necessary action against their owners.

He also stressed that senior officials of the transport department will be held accountable wherever such buses are operated. He said that any compromise in the safety of passengers is unacceptable. He further directed that the fitness, permits, insurance and drivers of all registered passenger and school buses in the state must be thoroughly checked.

The CM warned that if any incident occurs after these checks, the Transport Department officials will be held directly responsible. He made it clear that unauthorized vehicles should not be allowed on the roads under any circumstances.

Following strict orders from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Transport Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Singh has launched a comprehensive month-long road campaign against unauthorised vehicles across Uttar Pradesh. The campaign will include stringent checking of both passenger buses and school vehicles.

The Transport Commissioner has directed all Deputy Transport Commissioners (Zonal), Regional Transport Officers (Administration/Enforcement) and Assistant Regional Transport Officers (Administration/Enforcement) to carry out these inspections continuously throughout the month. A detailed schedule has been prepared, allocating duties to Regional Transport Officers at various toll plazas by date.

In addition, instructions have been issued that on specified dates, each Transport (Enforcement) Officer will personally appear at the relevant toll plaza and take enforcement action in conjunction with all Enforcement Officers in the region.

One interceptor will be deployed at each identified location. Information and photos of actions taken during this period will be sent to the department’s WhatsApp group.

Earlier on July 10, 18 people were killed and 19 injured when a double-decker bus hit a milk container on the Lucknow-Agra highway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each of the deceased in the Unnao accident. The injured will receive Rs 50,000. (ANI)
