China, the world’s largest producer of solar panels, plans to produce an additional 339 gigawatts of solar and wind power this year, Azernews reports.

This is according to a report by the Global Energy Monitor (GEM), based in Washington. The report’s authors note that China will increase its energy potential by 339 gigawatts from solar and wind power. This is more than the total capacity of all solar power plants ever built in Europe.

With 64% of the world’s renewable energy projects under construction in China, Beijing wants to minimize its use of traditional coal fuel.
