Deciding which Amazon Echo device you should buy depends primarily on what you will use it for and what your budget is.

The most popular smart speaker is the Amazon Echo Dot, which is also the cheapest. With an RRP of £49.99, the Echo Dot has a 1.6-inch front-facing speaker and an attractive, spherical design. It’s a great option for those trying out smart speakers for the first time or who want to use them mainly for listening to audiobooks, music, or asking about the weather, news, or traffic.

If you’re a visual person, you’ll probably benefit from spending a little more on a smart display. The RRP for these devices starts at £74.99 for the Echo Show 5, but you can often find them for less. The advantage of the touchscreen is that you can make video calls and the regular voice calls offered by Echo smart speakers.

Ring doorbells are compatible with Alexa devices, so you can both see who’s at the door without leaving the kitchen—another feature not available with standard speakers.

What are the types of echo?

There are a ton of Alexa-compatible devices available today, including everything from doorbells to plugs, but we’ve limited this list to just Amazon’s smart speakers and displays. They come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges, but they’ll all have the same basic Alexa features.

Echo Dot (4th generation)

The Echo Dot was redesigned last year, now sporting a new spherical shape. Features include hands-free calling and access to a range of ‘Alexa skills’, including Uber, Fitbit and Just Eat.
