Aliyu advises young people of Sokoto to embrace learning about skills

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has appealed to youths in the state to take advantage of various skill acquisition programmes introduced by his administration to become self-reliant.

He gave the warning in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, to journalists in Sokoto on Sunday to mark World Youth Skills Day, which is being celebrated across the world this year.

According to Aliyu, the current government has already started skill acquisition programmes in various state departments under which hundreds of youth have been trained in various professions.

The Governor stated: “We have graduated hundreds of young people who have undergone various skill acquisition programmes implemented by the Ministries of Local Government and Social Welfare as well as the Department of Community Development.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg as we look to train more and more young people in 23 local governments across the state.”

Aliyu, therefore, reaffirmed the commitment of the current administration to ensure that the youths in the state participate in building a new and economically stable Sokoto State.

He stressed that the youth, who constitute a significant part of the country’s population, must become useful, productive and self-sufficient so that they can contribute to the country’s development.

According to him, “we will soon make funds available to our merchants, artisans and craftsmen to boost trade and economic activities in the state.

“For school dropouts, we are introducing measures to enable them to return to school to complete their studies.

“We are also working round the clock to improve our Adult Education Department so that our senior citizens can read and write,” Aliyu assured.

He called on the people of the state to support the current government in its bid to improve the situation in Sokoto.

The Governor wished the youth of the country for a smooth World Youth Skills Day 2024.

Arewa PUNCH informs that July 15 every year is celebrated as World Youth Skills Day.
