DevEx Connect Launches to Elevate Developer, DevOps, SRE, and Platform Engineering Experiences Globally

21-year-old Ethan Sumner leads DevEx Connect with new perspective and vigor

LONDON, July 16, 2024 /CNW/ –DevEx Connect launched today as an independent, community-driven research, analytics, and events organization focused on everything under the DevEx umbrella, including DevOps, SRE, and Platform Engineering. Developer Experience (DevEx) is at the forefront of modern software development, focused on improving the quality of how developers interact with tools, processes, and organizational culture. DevEx Connect aims to empower local communities by providing a global connection and delivering high-quality research, analysis, and events in this space.

The centerpiece of DevEx Connect is the “hub,” a centralized platform that unites the community through content, research, analysis, and events. It will soon announce a schedule of global conferences in key locations such as London, Manchester, Sydney AND San Francisco with a cloud and industry-focused showcase designed to unite the DevEx community and foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Ethan Sumner21, who will serve as CEO of DevEx Connect, began his journey at the age of 16 when he set himself the goal of becoming a DevOps engineer, a goal he achieved as the youngest DevOps engineer at Mastercard at the age of 18. His career continued as he moved on to become a Cloud Solutions Architect at Microsoft, supporting businesses such as the NHS and Digital Natives, before taking on his previous role leading FinOps offerings for Cognizant in the UK. He began his community journey by founding the Young DevOps group to support early career challenges in DevOps, SRE and Platforms, and is active in community groups across the UK, focusing on Yorkshire within DevOps, AWS, Azure, GenAI and FinOps.

As a technology organisation for good, DevEx Connect will nurture local communities through Operation Uplift, a comprehensive programme designed to support and lift up local user groups and communities, initially focusing on the UK. It will provide specialist support, mentoring and essential funding to help these key communities grow and thrive. Operation Uplift will provide £100k in funding to revitalise the community groups and offer speaker development programmes to nurture talent and upskill in the DevEx space.

In addition, Operation Uplift offers career development opportunities through national speaker training, databases of venues and organizational support, and free consulting services provided by DevEx Connect community leaders. Acting as a bridge between organizations and communities, it aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and sustainable growth in DevEx communities.

The first DevEx Connect board members are: Paul Stovell AND Anna Samios. Stovell, known for founding and scaling Octopus Deploy, will bring his passion for building community and strategic growth. Samios brings valuable experience scaling organizations to ensure DevEx Connect remains at the forefront of industry advancement and community support. The board members and Sumner will lead DevEx Connect in its mission to transform the software development landscape and empower technical communities worldwide.
