Republic Bank Ghana announces appointment of 3 independent non-executive directors

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC announced the appointment of three independent non-executive directors.

The appointment of Prof. Vera Ogeh Lassey will take effect on May 31, while the appointments of Jonathan Prince Cann and Joseph Yaw Asumang will take effect on June 24, subject to approval by the Bank of Ghana.

Their appointments follow the retirement of Charles William Zwennes, Paul King Aryene and Ebenezer Tetteh Tagoe, who served on the board for nine years.

Prof. Profile (Mrs.) Vera Ogeh Lassey Fiador

Prof. (Mrs.) Vera Ogeh Lassey Fiador is an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Ghana Business School, Department of Finance. She holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, South Africa. She has expertise in Corporate Governance, Corporate Finance, Gender Diversity, Environmental and Social Risk Management and Enterprise Risk Management.

Her extensive services also include roles on several corporate boards. She is currently a Director and Senior Consultant at Madeolo Consult (a management consulting and training firm). As for her current strategic consulting engagements, they include corporate business strategy, financial strategy, climate budgeting, environmental and social risk management and related training interventions.

As part of her personal CSR, Vera has also designed and organized several free and/or subsidized training programs aimed at MSMEs in Ghana. Vera Fiador is a member of the African Economic Research Consortium and was a visiting professor at the IMF in Washington.

Jonathan Prince Cann Profile

Mr. Jonathan Cann is an astute management consultant specialising in governance, risk and compliance (GRC). He also specialises in organisational and business development, including supporting SMEs and other corporates in structuring, restructuring and developing governance systems and capabilities across a range of industries.

An accountant by profession, he holds an MBA in Financial Services from the University of East London (UEL) and a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. He holds several professional certifications in ISO standards and risk management. Jonathan is the founder and Managing Director of JPCann Associates Limited and its subsidiaries.

Joseph Yaw Asumang’s Profile

Mr. Yaw Asumang is a technology strategist with nearly 30 years of experience in technology consulting to corporate executives to increase business value through effective technology implementation. He is a graduate of Manchester University and Cranfield School of Management, both in the UK.

His IT career spanned both consulting and frontline technology management. Starting his IT career as a Business Solutions Analyst at Safeway Plc in the UK, he later joined Oracle UK as a Senior Consultant before moving to Oracle Africa Operations where he played a key role in establishing Oracle’s presence in Sub-Saharan Africa for many years, rising to the position of Country Manager for Oracle Ghana. He currently works as an IT Consultant, providing technology consulting services to organisations across a range of industries.
