Public consultation begins for John Lee’s third appearance; specials return on National Day

Public consultations on the citizen-focused policy began Tuesday, with Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu saying he will hold more than 40 in-person and online consultation sessions and two district consultations to hear from citizens, experts and policymakers.

Speaking ahead of the final meeting of the Executive Council before the summer recess, Lee said his third speech would focus on developing the economy to improve living conditions, exploring new avenues for economic growth to strengthen the city’s advantages and seizing opportunities for domestic and international development.

Lee continued that there could be more face-to-face exchanges after the Covid pandemic, saying more people could participate in this year’s consultation sessions. He also envisions a broader outreach to the public.

Lee noted that Hong Kong is an open economy and needs to grow as much as possible and seize opportunities while facing global uncertainties such as high interest rates, strained supply chains and complex geopolitical factors.

The Hong Kong leader added that the government will make every effort to promote National Day celebrations. Local communities and political offices will organize a series of events.

Special offers and promotions that have been launched in connection with Hong Kong’s anniversary will also return on October 1 as it believes the public will actively participate in the celebrations.
