Apple Releases iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Public Beta — How to Install and More

Apple has released the first public betas of upcoming operating system updates, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18. This will allow non-developers to try out new features before the official releases later this year.

The iOS 18 public beta brings a host of new features to compatible iPhone users. These include customization options for the Home screen, a revamped Control Center, support for RCS messages, and a redesigned Photos app. The iPadOS 18 beta also brings similar improvements, including a native Calculator app.

“iOS 18 public beta introduces support for RCS messages via the Messages app and provides Home screen customization options that let users place icons and widgets anywhere on the Home screen,” the report says.

While public betas provide early access to these upcoming OS updates, Apple’s AI-powered intelligence features aren’t included in current versions. These more advanced capabilities will debut on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, as well as the latest Macs and iPads.

How to install

iPhone users with compatible devices can easily access the iOS 18 public beta. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates
  2. Select the option “iOS 18 Public Beta”
  3. Click “Download and Install” to start the installation process

In addition to the iOS 18 beta, users can download the public betas of iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18 through the Apple Beta Software Program.

To do this, sign in with your Apple ID on the Beta Software Program website and follow the on-screen instructions to register compatible devices and start the download.

It is important to note that these are pre-release versions of the software, so users should back up their data before installing. It is also recommended to use a secondary or non-primary device for beta testing as there may be unknown bugs or glitches.

The watchOS 11 public beta includes new features like rest days, Live activities, and the Apple Vitals app. The macOS Sequoia beta adds the ability to mirror your iPhone on your Mac screen and dedicated password management apps. The tvOS 18 beta introduces an Amazon X-Ray-like InSight feature for Apple TV Plus content.

iPhone, iPad, and Mac users can sign up for the Apple Beta Software Program to download and install public beta versions. However, please note that these are pre-release versions and may contain unknown bugs or glitches. Users are advised to back up their data before installing.

The final versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and other operating system updates are expected to be announced and released alongside the launch of the iPhone 16 series in September.
