Apple releases iPadOS 18 public beta: Here are the new features, how to install, and more

Apple has released the first public beta of iPadOS 18, allowing iPad users to test the upcoming operating system before its official launch. Here’s all you need to know about the first public beta release of iPadOS 18.

How to install iPadOS 18 on your iPadTo begin, ensure your iPad is backed up to prevent data loss. Then, visit Apple’s Beta Software Program website (beta.apple.com) and sign in with your Apple ID. Select “Enrol Your Devices” and choose iPadOS from the list.

Next, open the Settings app on your iPad and navigate to General > Software Update > Beta Updates. Select “iPadOS 18 Public Beta” and tap “Download and Install.” Your iPad will restart once the installation is complete.
What iPad models are compatible with iPadOS 18Compatible devices include iPad Pro (2nd generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (6th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later). It’s recommended to install the beta on a secondary device, as it may contain bugs and performance issues.

iPadOS 18: What are the new features
iPadOS 18 brings a redesigned home screen with customizable app icon and widget placement, a revamped Control Center with third-party controls, and dark mode variants for app icons. The update also introduces a native Calculator app to iPads for the first time.

Apple’s AI-based Intelligence features are not yet included in this beta but are expected to be released in the coming months. These features will be exclusive to iPads with M-series chips.

Apple is likely to release the final version of iPadOS 18 in September, alongside iOS 18 and other OS updates.
